IP stands for Internet Protocol and it's the main delivery system for information over the Internet.

Everyone on the Internet has an IP address, and it looks like this: 12.345.56.78.  An IP address is assigned to all web sites.

One is assigned to you when you access the Internet through your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

What is a proxy server?

A proxy is a stand-in or substitute.  In computer language, a proxy is a server that acts on behalf of the real server to handle temporary information.  For instance, it can store common requests so that a request for information doesn't have to travel to the real server and back each time the request is placed.  Another use for a proxy is to limit access to certain files or web sites.  An example of a proxy is one that stands between your web browser and the server storing the web site you're looking for so that your history is stored.  When you want to revisit a web page, the browser proxy recognizes your requests and takes you there right away.

What is a server?

A server is a computer or device that either stores files or manages resources.  For instance, this web site is located on a server at the web host's physical address.  In a company, a server might be the computer that manages that company's resources, or it may be a central computer where all the files are stored.  A dedicated server only performs one function, as opposed to a Personal Computer or Desktop that performs many tasks such as file storage, Internet connection, printer connection, and the running of various programs.
